Candy land was one of my favorite board games when I was little. When I was younger the game was very enticing with the bright colours and the fun characters. But now that I’m older I realize the game was boring and had a very young target market. But I loved that game so I wanted to recreate it for an older target market.
The first way I did this was recreate the main scene with paper cut style collage and a darker colour palette. These two elements work together to attract an older audience.
Next I got rid of the characters because they were very targeted for the younger audience and the game was originally intending to be about exploring the Land.
I also added a card element to make it harder and more challenging so the older players won’t get bored. The cards are designed to be eye catching but still hint at the playful child inspired theme.
I explained all the new changes and included a picture of the cards and board game on the back.
I used the original logo for the Candy Land game because without it so much of the game as changed it would be hard to understand that it is a redesign of the Candy Land Original Board Game.
